Dear compatriots!
On January 22, 1919 at the Sofiiska Square in Kyiv was declared unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic into a single unified Ukraine. The State act declared:
“The territory of Ukraine, divided over the centuries, including Galicia, Bukovyna, Carpathian Ruthenia, and Dnieper Ukraine will now become a great united Ukraine.
Dreams, for which the best sons of Ukraine fought and died for, have come true.
From now on there is the only independent Ukrainian People's Republic."
The Act of Unification was proclaimed in the conditions of war, in the face of the threat of foreign invasion. Ukrainians on both banks of Zbruch found the strength for unity and solidarity. Despite the fact that in a few months Ukrainian statehood collapsed under the onslaught of Bolshevism, on the global stage the Act of Unification had fixed the irrevocable formation of the Ukrainian political nation.
Today, hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens are forced to live in the temporarily occupied territories, under the control of a neighboring state and illegal terrorist formations. Ukraine has again faced challenges motivating the citizens to unite for a common goal - the establishment of an integral, independent, democratic Ukrainian State.
This is our sacred duty to all generations who sacrificed their lives for this great purpose. I am confident that together we will manage to hold out and win!
